Last Thursday (15th July) saw a welcome return of the Tavistock Relays staged after a one year hiatus.Staged in the Meadows over a course of 1.1 mile this is a popular event, though this year numbers were a little down on previous years.
The first event was the senior ladies race and it looked to be turning into a domestic battle between Tavistock AC with their teams holding the top 3 positions. However after solid legs from Hannah Smith and Emma Baker, Holly Cole brought TRP back into contention for Claire Fraser to run a storming anchor leg to take the team into 3rd place just running out of tarmac to secure 2nd.
The Open race may have lacked the overall depth of previous years but proved to be exciting to watch. G.R.T proved to be the strongest on the night, ending up as comfortable winners with TRP relegated to runners up. However, Ben Neale had the satisfaction of posting the fastest time of the night finishing in 4m49s. TRP were well represented on the night with the “B” team finishing in 7th place and the mixed team finishing 16th. Full results can be found on the TAC website.
The previous evening Liam Nicholls made the journey up to Exeter for the Exeter 10k. Continuing his rich vein of form he finished 7th in a new PB of 34 mins 17 secs.
Finally on Saturday the return of the Tavy 5 saw Umberto Bergonzini take time off from his marathon training to run an excellent 22 min 10 sec on a very warm morning.
This week (Friday) the club will be competing at the Erme Valley Relays as defending champions from 2019.
