As the festive period drew to a close TRP reflects on some seasonal runs and extends a happy new year to both friends and adversaries.
The Christmas period saw a number of fine performances from TRP athletes with parkrun success for Hannah Paul and Marc Smerdon who both recorded wins at Cranleigh and Tamar Trails respectively. Chris Rimmer totally dominated the field for a comfortable victory at the Tavy 5 and Hannah Walters ran to a superb second place at the Final Countdown trail 10k. This all points toward another exciting year for the club.
Last weekend saw the first cross country of the new decade with several members of the club taking part in the S.W. Champs at Yeovil, five of whom were selected for their county team.
The first race of the day was the senior men. In a very competitive field Ben Neale came home in 14th place, closely followed by TRP and Devon teamates Chris Rimmer and Jordan Andrews. Running strongly in support were Ed Smith, Charlie Gibbard representing Cornwall and Corin Russell. The U17 men’s race was once more a battle between Ollie Smart and Bidefords Flyn Jennings. Ollie had a rare off day and had to accept second best on the day. Finally it was the turn of the ladies where the in form Rachael Malthouse took first place in the F 35 category and helped Devon to the silver medal in the team event. Showing the emerging strength of the TRP ladies Claire Fraser, Hannah Paul and Vicky Moore rounded out the team scoring.
TRP are now a major power in local athletics and anyone wanting to find out more about the club should check out the website or come along to ATS on a Tuesday or Thursday at 5:45 where they will receive a friendly welcome.
